Hi there, my name is Genesis Lara.

I’m a writer for the ACLU of Arizona, focused on uncovering the impacts of U.S. immigration policies along the state’s southern border. Grounded in my own upbringing in the sister border cities of Ambos Nogales, I bring a community-centered perspective to my work and prioritize the voices of those most affected by policy decisions.

I have extensive experience in journalism, including a previous stint as managing editor of the Nogales International – a small, but mighty newsroom that allowed me the opportunity to report on immigration, local government, and the socioeconomic relationship between Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. I also worked as a staff reporter at the Arizona Daily Star, where I focused on K-12 education.
